Basic Meaning: seventy-five dharmas
Senses:
The seventy-five mental factors listed in the Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya, which classifies all dharmas under seventy-five categories, divided into five groups:
- material factors 色法 rūpāṇi (eleven items)
- mind 心法 cittam (one item)
- factors associated with mind 心所有法 citta-saṃprayukta-saṃskārāḥ (forty-six items)
- factors not associated with mind 心不相應行法 cittaviprayukta-saṃskārāḥ (fourteen items) The seventy-two listed to here are the original Sarvâstivādin categories.
- In addition there are three unconditioned or non-phenomenal dharmas 無爲法 asaṃskṛta dharma.
In Yogâcāra, this list is expanded out to one hundred 百法 (Skt. pañca-saptati-dharma; Tib. chos don lnga [chos mngon mdzod]).
