Basic Meaning: seven currents
Senses:
Śrāvakas 聲聞 are distinguished in four accesses 四向 and four realizations 四果 in the process of eliminating afflictions 煩惱, and the afflictions are also divided in seven kinds of currents when a holy person who has attained the four realizations 四果 eliminates them: 1) 見諦所滅流: the holy persons of stream-enterer 預流果 cut off the metal disturbances 見惑 of the desire realm by perceiving the truths; 2) 修道所滅流: the holy persons of once-returner 一來果 and non-returner 不還果 cut off the perceptive mental disturbances 思惑 by removing embedded innate afflictions; 3) 遠離所滅流: the arhat 阿羅漢果 completely cuts off mental disturbances of views 見惑 and perception 思惑 by detaching from the causes of attachment; 4) 數事所滅流: arhats 阿羅漢果 cut off the five aggregates 五蘊, twelve sense fields 十二處 and eighteen compositional elements of cognition 十八界, and thus avoid suffering; 5) 捨所滅流: arhats 阿羅漢果 abandon mind in itself after becoming enlightened to the emptiness of their own mind; 6) 護所滅流: arhats 阿羅漢果 make themselves not arise habituated tendencies 習氣 of disturbances of views and disturbances of perception after completing practice; 7) 制伏所滅流: the holy persons try not to arise habituated tendencies 習氣 of disturbances of views and perception by permanently subduing them.
