Basic Meaning: effect of coordinated activity
Senses:
Narêndrayaśas' 那連提耶舍 translation of puruṣa-kāra-phala, the effect of the discharge of causal efficacy gathered from various conditioned dharmas 有爲法 in coordination.
〔阿毘曇心論經 T 1551.28.836c8〕
. The first of the five types of effects 五果 taught in the Sarvâstivāda Abhidharma. Xuanzang 玄奘 translates as 士用果. Dhammajoti (2007, 163) renders as
'virile effect'
and observes that this particular type of effect results from either a simultaneous cause (sahabhū-hetu 倶有因), as in the four elements 四大 reciprocally supporting one another at the same time they together compose a particular derivative material formation 所造色 (upādāya-rūpa), or from a conjoined cause 相應因 (saṃprayuktaka-hetu), as in mind 心 (citta) and mental functions 心所 (caitta) grasping the same object when operating in conjunction. Like multiple people holding hands to ford a raging river, multiple dharmas offer mutual support, and each contributes to the singular event of the discharge of causal efficacy which brings about the specific effect.
〔阿毘達磨大毘婆沙論 T 1545.27.80b20〕
