三支作法

Pronunciations

Basic Meaning: three part syllogism

Senses:

  • ...in the New School of Buddhist logic 新因明. The three parts are:
    1. pakṣa (), the proposition;
    2. hetu (), the reason; and
    3. dṛṣṭânta () the example.
    The older school had used a five-part syllogism 五支作法, but from the time of Dignāga, the five part syllogism was considered unnecessary and the three part syllogism was used. See 因明. [Charles Muller, Dan Lusthaus; source(s): Nakamura, JEBD]
