Basic Meaning: three esoteric sutras

Senses:

  • Three sutras fundamental to the Japanese Tendai esoteric school 台密: the Mahāvairocana Sūtra 大日經, Vajraśekhara Sūtra 金剛頂經, and Susiddhi-kara-sūtra 蘇悉地經. They are also referred to as three mantra sutras 眞言三部, three secret sutras 祕密三部, and three sutras of Mahāvairocana 大日三部. The Shingon esoteric school 東密 only recognize the authority of the first two of these sutras, which are referred to as two great sutras 兩部大經. [Matthew McMullen; source(s): JEBD, FGD]
