Basic Meaning: ground of dry wisdom

Senses:

  • The immature stage of wisdom, the first of the ten grounds 十地 in the bodhisattva path. 〔彰所知論 T 1645.32.234c8〕 As the first of the ten stages in the Shared Teaching of the Tiantai path, it is equivalent to the level of outer worldling 外凡位, as well as the three stages of the general and specific applications of the five kinds of mental stabilization 五停心 included in the Tripiṭaka Teaching 藏教.
