Basic Meaning: twenty-five kinds of perfect understanding
Senses:
The twenty-five kinds of perfect understanding of the truth; they refer to the six data-fields 六塵, six faculties 六根, six consciousnesses 六識, and seven elements 七大; disciples of the Buddha are said each to have acquired a special knowledge of one of these twenty-five and to have been recognized as its authority, e.g., Avalokitêśvara 觀音 of the ear, Dignāga of sound, etc. [Charles Muller; source(s): Soothill]
