In the Yogâcārabhūmi the list is: characteristics (nimitta, 相), names (nāman, 名), discrimination (vikalpa, 分別), thusness (tathatā, 眞如), and correct cognition (saṃyag-jñāna, 正智) (Skt. pañca vastūni; Tib. dngos po lnga). This is nearly identical to the list of five dharmas (五法) given in the Laṅkâvatāra-sūtra, and is also given in various other Yogâcāra texts, including, among others, San wuxing lun (三無性論, T 1617) and Xianyang shengjiao lun (顯揚聖教論, T 1602).

Five categories of mental factors, also written 五法. In Abhidharma and Yogâcāra, this list gives an exhaustive inventory of the physical and mental factors that form our sensory and cognitive experience. The Sarvâstivāda Abhidharma list is comprised of five categories of dharmas: form (rūpa, 色), mind (citta, 心), mental factors associated with mind (caitta, 心所法), factors not associated with the mind (citta-viprayukta-saṃskāra, 心不相應行), and unconditioned factors (asaṃskṛta, 無爲法). Five conditions that constitute murder.
The Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya 摩訶僧祇律 defines five conditions for murder, which if fulfilled constitute a pārājika offense 有五事具足殺人:
- The victim is human 人.
- There is perception of a human being 人想.
- There is a plan to take the life 興方便.
- There is an intention to kill 殺心.
- The victimʼs life is ended 斷命.

Five aspects of the spiritual friend. The five defining aspects (Skt. pañcâkāra; Tib. rnam pa lgna) of the bodhisattva 菩薩 who acts as a spiritual guide 善知識 according to the Śrāvakabhūmi 聲聞地 section of the Yogâcārabhūmi. Translated by Dharmakṣema 曇無讖 as 五事 and by Xuanzang 玄奘 as 五種相. These are:
- ability to reprove others through compelling speech 語言/能諫擧 (Skt. codaka);
- ability to induce recollection of the Dharma 與念 (Skt. smāraka);
- ability to instruct others 能教授 (Skt. avavādaka);
- ability to exhort others 能教誡 (Skt. anuśāsaka) to practice what is wholesome and eschew what is unwholesome;
- ability to expound the Dharma to others 能說法 (Skt. dharmadeśaka ).
