Basic Meaning: five gates of mindfulness

Senses:

  • The fivefold practice leading to rebirth in the Pure Land. This doctrine was developed by Vasubandhu 世親 in his Treatise on the Pure Land 淨土論:
    1. Worship of the image of Amitâbha 禮拜門.
    2. Invoking the name of Amitâbha 讚歎門.
    3. Vowing to be reborn in the Pure Land 作願門.
    4. Meditating on the glories of the Pure Land 觀察門.
    5. Transferring oneʼs own accumulated merit to all sentient beings 迴向門.
