Basic Meaning: Five Versions of the Compendium of the Great Vehicle
Senses:
Five different versions of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha. According to Fabaoʼs 法寶 listing, this treatise was composed by Asaṅga 無著, with commentaries written by Vasubandhu 世親 and Asvabhāva 無性 (that basically accord with each other), and translations by Paramârtha 眞諦 and Xuanzang which diverge from each other. The original text, along with the two commentaries and two translations, are called together the
'five versions.'
For the original text and its translations, see 攝大乘論. For the commentaries, see under 攝大乘論釋. [Charles Muller; source(s): Soothill]
