Basic Meaning: five practices
Senses:
The five practices of the bodhisattvas taught in the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra 涅槃經:
- the three disciplines 聖行;
- compassionate deeds on behalf of sentient beings 梵行;
- spontaneous acts on behalf of others 天行;
- manifest good suitable for secular people and lesser vehicle practitioners 嬰兒行;
- appearing in a suitable manifestation for those in need of help 病行.

In the Yogâcārabhūmi-śāstra, five kinds of temperament, or behavior (carita), that are to be overcome:
- greedy temperament [rāga-carita] 貪行
- hateful temperament [doṣa-carita, dveṣa-carita] 瞋行
- dull temperament [moha-carita] 癡行
- self-satisfied temperament [māna-carita] 慢行
- discursive temperament [vitarka-carita] 尋思行
