Basic Meaning: Buddhaśānta

Senses:

  • His name is translated into Chinese according to its meaning as Jueding 覺定. Originally from northern India, he came in 511 to the Northern Wei, where he cooperated with Bodhiruci 菩提流支 and Ratnamati 勒那摩提 in the translation of the Daśabhūmika-śāstra 十地經論. He was active at White Horse Temple 白馬寺 in Luoyang 洛陽 and at Jinhuasi 金華寺 in Ye 鄴 between 525 and 539. His dates of birth and death are unclear. He is credited with the following translations: 銀色女經 Rūpavatyāvadāna (T 179); 大乘十法會 Daśadharmaka (T 310(9)) in the Ratnakūṭa; 無畏德菩薩會 Aśokadattavyākaraṇa (T 310(32)) in the Ratnakūṭa; 轉有經 Bhavasaṃkrānti sūtra (T 576); 如來師子吼經 Siṃhanādika sūtra (T 835); 阿難陀目佉尼呵離陀鄰尼經 Anantamukha[sādhana] dhāraṇī (T 1015); 金剛上味陀羅尼經 Vajramaṇḍā dhāraṇī (T 1344); Zheng gongjing jing 正恭敬經 (T 1496); and 攝大乘論 Mahāyānasaṃgraha (T 1592). 〔續高僧傳 T 2060.50.429a9 〕 [Michael Radich, Charles Muller]
