Basic Meaning: Essentials of Practicing Śamatha and Vipaśyanā Meditation

Senses:

  • Xiuxi zhiguan zuochan fayao, 1 fasc.; T 1915. A popular known meditation manual by Zhiyi 智顗 (538–597), composed around 575–585; often referred to by the short title of 小止觀. Sekiguchi Shindai has provided a reconstruction based on the extensive comparison of early manuscripts that is thought to be more representative of the original text. This text is entitled Brief Clarification of the Essentials of Śamatha and Vipaśyanā̄ Meditation for Beginners to Open their Blind Eyes (Lüe ming kaimeng chuxue zuochan zhiguan yaomen 略明開矇初學坐禪止觀要門).
