Basic Meaning: cause of the uninterrupted activity
Senses:
According to Saṃghabhadra, the Dārṣṭāntika 譬喩部 theory of seeds maintains that the seed serves as the cause of the interrupted causal activity that ultimately yields an effect (Skt. pāraṃparyeṇa pratyaya-bhāvam). In contrast the intermediate causes and conditions that enable the fruition of the seed, such as the soil, the water, and the sunlight, the action of planting the seed serves as the direct or proximate cause of the uninterrupted activity 親傳因 that results in the effect.
