Basic Meaning: transmission of the lamp

Senses:

  • To transmit the light that dispels the darkness of nescience, meaning, to transmit the Dharma 傳法.   • Chuandeng (1554–1628). A Tiantai 天台 monk of the late Ming Dynasty 明代, also known as Wujin 無盡, Youmen 有門, Youxi 幽溪, Youxi Wujin 幽溪無盡, Youxi Chuandeng 幽溪傳燈, and Wujin Chuandeng 無盡傳燈. His lay surname was Ye . He is noted for works on Tiantai history and Pure Land 淨土 practice, including the Tiantaishan fangwai zhi 天台山方外志 and Jingtu shengwusheng lun 淨土生無生論. [Charles Jones]
