Basic Meaning: Uccaṁgama

Senses:

  • A mythical bird that lives in the northern continent of Uttarakuru. When a person in Uttarakuru dies, others carry the body to a crossroads and leave it there. The Uccaṁgama then flies down from the mountains and carries the body away, casting it into the waters of one of the other three continents. Also rendered 憂承伽摩. See T 25.1.372a25.
