Basic Meaning: inner circle
Senses:
Close disciples. Sentient beings who seek and hold firmly to the Buddhadharma (Skt. *abhyantara-parivāra).

This includes people who always stayed close to the Buddha and waited on him. As distinguished from the great retinue 大眷屬, which includes such figures as Śāriputra 舍利弗, Maudgalyāyana 目犍連, Mahākāśyapa 摩訶迦葉, Subhūti 須菩提, along with great bodhisattvas such as Mañjuśrī 文殊師利, Maitreya 彌勒 and so forth.
