Basic Meaning: eight kinds of attentiveness of great persons

Senses:

  • The eight thoughts of bodhisattvas, śrāvakas, and pratyekabuddhas:
    1. The attentiveness to lessening desire 少欲覺.
    2. The attentiveness to being satisfied with the way things are 知足覺.
    3. The attentiveness to extrication (from afflictive behavior) 遠離覺.
    4. The attentiveness to vigilant effort 精進覺.
    5. The attentiveness to right mindfulness 正念覺.
    6. The attentiveness to right concentration 正定覺.
    7. The attentiveness to right wisdom 正慧覺.
    8. The attentiveness to avoidance of conceptual proliferation 不戲論覺.
