Basic Meaning: six grounds
Senses:
Six bodhisattvas in the Kṣitigarbha group of the garbhadhātu, each controlling one of the six destinies 六道 of sentient existence. They deal with rebirth in the hells, as hungry ghosts, animals, asuras, men, and devas (Skt. ṣaṭsu bhūmiṣu, ṣaḍ-bhūmika, ṣaṣṭhī, anāgamyântara-dhyāna-bhūmika).
