Basic Meaning: six internal sense bases

Senses:

  • (Skt. ṣaḍ-āyatana; Tib. skye mched drug). The six loci of perception or sensation; they are the 六根 or six organs of sense, which constitute the fifth of twelve links of dependent arising.   • In Yogâcāra, it can specifically refer to the seeds of names and words that produce the six bodily organs. [Charles Muller]
