The ten major disciples of Śākyamuni, each of whom was master of one ability: Ānanda 阿難 of hearing and remembering 多聞第一, Aniruddha 阿那律 of divine vision 天眼第一, Mahākāśyapa 摩訶迦葉 of ascetic discipline 頭陀第一, Mahākātyāyana 摩訶迦旃延 of the theoretical principles 論義第一, Maudgalyāyana 摩訶目犍連 of supranormal powers 神通第一, Pūrṇa 富樓那 of expounding the Dharma 說法第一, Rāhula 羅怙羅 of the esoteric practices 密行第一, Śāriputra 舍利弗 of wisdom 智慧第一, Subhūti 須菩提 of understanding emptiness 解空第一, and Upāli 優婆離 of maintaining the precepts 持律第一.
