Basic Meaning: presence in similar instances and presence in dissimilar instances
Senses:
In Buddhist logic 因明, the first of the nine possible conditions of a reason in a syllogism based on its properties 九句因. For instance, a Śābdika (Mīmâṃsaka) said:
"Sound is permanent, Because it is knowable, Like space and unlike a pot."
The property of being knowable is present in both similar and dissimilar instances. Inconclusive, being too broad 共不定. (From Kuijiʼs explanatory notes to the Hetucakra).
