Basic Meaning: four causes

Senses:

  • The four causes in the Shōtoku Taishi commentary to the Vimalakīrti-sūtra: habit causes 習因, retribution causes 報因, supporting causes 相資因, similar causes 相似因. 〔維摩經義疏 T 2186.56.27b18〕 (Skt. caturbhiḥ kāraṇaiḥ).
