Basic Meaning: nine heavens of the fourth meditation heaven

  • The nine heavens in the fourth of the four major meditation heavens (see 十八界 and 四禪天). They are: cloudless heaven 無雲天, heaven produced by virtue 福生天, heaven of bountiful fruits 廣果天, no-thought heaven 無想天, unafflicted heaven 無煩天, no heat heaven 無熱天, skillful vision heaven 善見天, skillful manifestation heaven 善現天, and the heaven of the extreme limit of form 色究竟天. 〔翻譯名義集 T 2131.54.1075c13〕 [Charles Muller]
