Four wrong ways of making a living according to Daoxuan 道宣 (596–667) in his Sifenlu shanfan buque xingshi chao 四分律刪繁補闕行事鈔 which he cites from the Mahāprajñāpāramitā Upadeśa 大智度論:
- wrongness of direction 方邪: dispatching envoys to the four directions in pursuit of clothing and food.
- wrongness of looking upwards 仰邪: surveying above features of star signs and lunar cycles
- wrongness below 下邪: tilling fields, planting seeds and various acts directed downwards
- the four ways to eat by way of the mouth 維口食: learning small spells to invite profit to support oneself
