Basic Meaning: fourteen possible errors or fallacies (in the reason)
Senses:
A list of fourteen errors or fallacies (Skt. hetvâbhāsa) that can occur in the reason 因 in a three-part syllogism as compiled by Hui Zhao 慧沼 in his Yinming ru zhengli lunyi zuanyao 因明入正理論義纂要. These are divided into the three categories of: (1) four kinds of unproved (asiddha) 四不成過, (2) six kinds of inconclusive (anaikāntika) 六不定過, and (3) four kinds of contradictory (viruddha) 四相違過. These are a subset of the thirty-three fallacies 三十三過.
