Basic Meaning: Enni Bennen
Senses:
(1202–1280) Japanese monk of the Rinzai school. He studied in the Southern Song under the Chinese Chan master Wuzhun Shifan 無準師範, and returned to Japan as a transmitter of Wuzhunʼs Linji teachings. Founder of the Shōichi Branch 聖一派, one of the twenty-four transmissions of Zen 禪宗二十四流 that reached Japan. He founded the Tōfukuji 東福寺 in Kyoto.
