Basic Meaning: Yuanwu Foguo chanshi yulu
Senses:
(20 fasc.) Also written 圜悟果禪師語錄 and 佛果圜悟禪師語錄, 圜悟語錄, and 圜語錄. A record of the sermons, discourses, verse, and prose writings of Yuanwu Foguo 圜悟佛果 (1063–1135), also known as Yuanwu Keqin 圜悟克勤, a renowned master of the Yangqi branch 楊岐派 of the Linji school 臨濟宗 of Chan. Compiled by Huqiu Shaolong 虎丘紹隆 and first printed in 1134 ( T 1997.47.713b23). The content of the work is as follows:
- Fascicles 1 to the first half of fascicle 8 – formal sermons from the high seat 上堂.
- The second half of fascicle 8 to 13 – informal discourses 小參.
- Fascicle 14 to the first half of fascicle 16 – suggestions for individual training 法語.
- The second half of 16 through the first half of fascicle 18 – prose comments on old cases 拈古.
- The second half of 18 through 19, verse comments on old cases 頌古.
- Fascicle 20 - miscellaneous verse, prose writings, as well as prefaces by Geng Yanxi 耿延禧 (n.d.) and Zhang Jun 張浚 (1086–1154), both important officials who were lay disciples of Yuanwu.
