Basic Meaning: external objects
Senses:
Some sources define these as being equivalent to the six objects 六塵 (六境), but in other places it refers only to the objects of the five sense faculties, with 法 mental objects being separately designated as internal object 內塵. Nakamura cites the Viṃśatikā as an example of the former case (T 1589.31.70c27), but in his definition of the term 內塵, gives the latter explanation, which we can find explained at T 1088.20.216b18 (Skt. bāhya-viṣaya, bāhyāny āyatanāni, artha, viṣaya).
