大乘法界無差別論

Pronunciations

Basic Meaning: Treatise on Non-Distinction in the Great Vehicle Dharma Realm

Senses:

  • The Dasheng fajie wu chabie lun. Takasaki gives the Sanskrit title as *Mahāyāna-dharmadhātu-aviśeṣa-śāstra, but Lancaster and Hirakawa render as *Mahāyāna-dharmadhātu-nirviśeṣa-śāstra. 1 fasc., K 639, T 1627. By Sthiramati 堅慧; translation by Devaprajña 提雲般若: 14th day, 10th month, 2nd year of Tianshou 天授, Tang dynasty (691) in Da zhoudong Monastery 大周東寺, 1 or by an anonymous translator.2 Nanjō 1318; Ono. 7:343a. Also called Fajie wu chabie lun 法界無差別論. Because it is attributed to Sāramati in the Chinese Tripiṭaka, from its contents, it seems quite consistent with the Ratnagotravibhāga 究竟一乘寶性論 T 1611. The main point of doctrine in this work is the bodhicitta which is synonymous with citta-prakṛti in the Ratnagotravibhāga, being another term for tathāgatagarbha. The text describes this bodhicitta under 12 divisions, namely: result (phala, ), cause (hetu, ), self-nature (svabhāva, 自性), different names (paryāya, 異名), non-distinction (abheda, 無差別), state (avasthāprabheda, 分位), undefiled (asaṃkliṣṭa 無染), permanent (nitya 常恆), associated (yoga, 相應), not creating benefit (anarthakriyā, 不作義利) , creating benefit (arthakriyā, 作義利) , and sameness in nature (ekatva/ eka-dhātu, 一性). Related texts: T 353, T 374, T 1611, T 1627, T 1666, T 1838.
