Basic Meaning: pervasive mental factors

Senses:

  • Mental factors that operate everywhere (Skt. mahā-bhūmika-dharmāḥ). As taught in the Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya. Operating everywhere, means that they are functioning in mental activities that are morally good, evil, as well as neutral. There are ten of this type:
    1. sensation ,
    2. perception ,
    3. volition ,
    4. touch ,
    5. desire ,
    6. intelligence ,
    7. recollection ,
    8. intention 作意,
    9. verification 勝解,
    10. samādhi 三摩地
