Basic Meaning: Daisetsu Sonō
Senses:
(1313–1377) A Japanese monk of the Rinzai school 臨濟宗, born to the Fujiwara family in Kamakura. He went to China in 1343 and became the dharma heir of Qianyan Yuanchang 千巖元長. He returned to Japan in 1358 and became founder of the Daisetsu Branch 大拙派, one of the twenty-four transmissions of Zen 禪宗二十四流 that reached Japan. Also known as 廣圓明鑑禪師. [Griffith Foulk, Michel Mohr]
