Basic Meaning: Da banniepan jing jijie
Senses:
71 fasc. by Baoliang 寶亮 et al. T 1763.37.377a-611a. Also known as 大般涅槃經義疏, 大般涅槃疏, and 涅槃經集解. A compilation of commentaries on the Southern version of the Nirvana Sutra 南本涅槃經, comprising what is presently the oldest selection of commentaries on the sutra. The work was initiated at based on a decree from Wudi 武帝 in 509, and included the comments of such important scholars as Baoliang 寶亮., Daosheng 道生, Sengliang 僧亮, Fayao 法瑤, Tanji 曇濟, Sengzong 僧宗, Zhixiu 智秀, Fazhi 法智, Faan 法安, Tanzhun 曇准, Tanai 曇愛, Huilang 慧朗, Tanchan 曇懺, Mingjun 明駿, and Huidan 慧誕. It is one of the earliest texts in Chinese Buddhism that employs the essence-function 體用 hermeneutic approach.
