Basic Meaning: Rujing chanshi yulu
Senses:
(2 fasc.) A work recording the sayings of Tiantong Rujing 天童如淨 (1163–1228) compiled by Wensu 文素 and other disciples in the Song period 宋代 and published with an introduction dated 1229. The first fascicle records sermons from Qingliangsi 淸涼寺 in Jiankang 建康 prefecture, Ruiyansi 瑞岩寺 in Taizhou 台州, Jingcisi 淨慈寺 in Linan 臨安 prefecture, Ruiyansi 瑞岩寺 in Mingzhou 明州, and once more at Jingcisi 淨慈寺. The second fascicle records sayings from Tiantong Jingdesi 天童景德寺 in Mingzhou, including dharma hall talks 上堂語, small gatherings 小參, general sermons 普說, dharma talks 法語, verse commentaries on old cases 頌古, praising of the Buddha and patriarchs 讚佛祖, self-praise 自贊, small services 小佛事, and gāthā 偈頌. Zuquan 祖泉, abbot of Jingdesi 景德寺, published a comparison of different editions 校勘 of this work. Extant versions include an edition revised and published in 1680 by Manzan Dōhaku 卍山道白 (1635–1714), who added Japanese punctuation and a foreword, and a revised woodblock print edition published in 1767 by Menzan Zuihō 面山瑞方 (1683–1769).
