Basic Meaning: Brahmin monk
Senses:
Indian religious mendicants of the Brahmin 婆羅門 caste; or those who were originally non-Buddhist practitioners of Brahmanism 婆羅門教 and converted to Buddhism. A prominent example of this latter type is the Buddhaʼs close disciple Śāriputra 舍利弗 whose mother was the daughter of a Brahmin scholar from Magadha 摩竭陀.
