Basic Meaning: Biography of the Master Vasubandhu

Senses:

  • The Posoubandou fashi zhuan K 1038, T 2049, one fascicle, trans.  眞諦, Chen dynasty 陳 (CE 557-569. ). A biography of the Yogâcāra scholar Vasubandhu 世親, which also gives an account of the life of his older brother Asaṅga 無著. It is one of the most important sources of historical information about these two figures. The text was translated into English by Takakusu in 1904 (see below). The present 'translation' is ascribed to Paramârtha, but modern scholars have speculated that he was actually the author of the text.
