Basic Meaning: Anguoyuan
Senses:
A Chan 禪宗 temple in Fuzhou 福州 (Fujian 福建 province), established by Anguo Hongtao 安國弘瑫 (d.u.), successor to Xuefeng Yicun 雪峰義存 (822–908). Huiqiu 慧球 (–913), dharma heir to Xuansha Shibei 玄沙師備 (835–908), together with his disciples, made this temple a significant site for the Xuefeng style of Chan. Initially, Anguo'in was believed to stand in the same place as Xuanshasi 玄沙寺, the residence of Xuansha Shibei. However, we now know that these are two separate temples (for a detailed discussion and references see the entry in the ZGDJT). [Erez Joskovich; source(s): ZGDJT]
