  • The major Chinese dynastic period (960–1279) that followed the Tang 唐代 and preceded the Yuan 元代. See also 宋. In terms of Chinese Buddhism, it was the era of the flourishing of the Chan schools 禪宗, as well as the time of the arising of the competing Neo-Confucianism 宋學. [Charles Muller]
