  • Zongmen liandeng huiyao. 30 fasc.; abbreviated as Liandeng huiyao 聯燈會要 and Huiyao 會要; also called Chanzong Liandeng lu 禪宗聯燈錄. Compiled by Huiweng Wuming 晦翁悟明 and published in 1189, with an additional fascicle, which includes a detailed table of contents. X 1557. This work is compiled from the contents of the Jingde chuandeng lu 景德傳燈錄, the Tiansheng guangdeng lu 天聖廣燈錄, the Jianzhong jingguo xudeng lu 建中靖國續燈錄, and the recorded sayings 語錄 of several Chan masters of the Song dynasty 宋代. Chronologically it covers the entire scope of Chan historical narrative, from the Seven Buddhas of the Past 過去七佛 through the twenty-eight generations of Indian patriarchs 二十八祖, the six generations of Chinese patriarchs 六祖, and their descendants in the various lines up to and including men of the compilerʼs own time, that is, the middle of the Southern Song dynasty 南宋.

The compiler, Wuming, was a monk of the Yangqi branch 楊岐派 of the Linji school 臨濟宗, in the third generation after Dahui 大慧. The publication date is not mentioned in the work, but printing is believed to have followed soon after the compilation was completed. The work opens with a detailed table of contents, which lists the various masters under their names and lines of descent. Fascicles 1–29 of the text proper comprise accounts of the awakening experiences and other episodes in the lives of the old masters, together with the gong'ans 公案 that developed from them, and the important sermons, lectures, and talks of these men, some with short commentaries by masters of the Song. Fascicle 30 is devoted to fifteen short compositions by Chan writers of earlier periods.
