Basic Meaning: restraints concomitant with dhyāna
Senses:
Discipline born from meditative concentration. The upholding of the precepts that comes spontaneously upon realizing dhyāna concentration. The morality that accompanies meditation. During proper meditation it is not possible to violate the precepts since oneʼs body and mind are free from evil. Hence, proper meditation itself is equivalent to the precepts. Also Abbreviated as 定戒; also translated as 定具戒, 靜慮律儀, 靜慮生律儀, 禪律儀, 定律儀, and 禪戒.
