  • According to Ishii Kōsei, this word is used in some early texts, including but not limited to Chan texts, as a genitive marker (like modern Mandarin de ), apparently colloquial. Ishii discusses examples in the Shenhui yulu 神會語錄, the Nanyang heshang dunjiao jietuo chanmen zhiliao xing tan yu 南陽和尙頓教解脫禪門直了性壇語, the Chuan deng lu 傳燈錄 and the Er ru si xing lun 二入四行論. He also discusses examples in a number of works by Paramârtha: the Foxing lun 佛性論 (T 1610), the Shiba kong lun 十八空論 (T 1616), the San wuxing lun三無性論 (T 1617), the Suixiang lun 隨相論 (T 1641), and the Si di lun 四諦論 (T 1647). Examples are even found in Paramârthaʼs Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya (色家色, (T 1559):29.187a14-15, corresponding to rūpasya rūpam; 色家生, 187a14, corresponding to rūpasyôtpāda; 此法心家法故, 188c6; 果報家因, 190c20-22), where Ishii proposes that they may be vestiges of oral exposition that were inadvertently left in the text through insufficient polishing.
