Basic Meaning: provisional teaching method of countering wrong views

Senses:

  • The third of four provisional teaching methods 四假 taught in the Sanlun xuanyi. The Buddha teaches to counter extreme views. For example, for those who are attached to permanence 常住 he teaches impermanence 無常, and vice-versa. 〔三論玄義 T 1852.45.13a21〕 [Charles Muller; source(s): Ui, Nakamura, DFB]
