Guangwen (1189–1263); Chan monk 禪宗 of the Southern Song 南宋, eighteenth generation dharma heir of the Nanyue 南嶽 tradition, originally from Houguanxian 侯官縣 in Fuzhou 福州. Secular name was Lin 林, posthumous title Yanxi 偃溪. Entered Suiguangxiaosi 隨光孝寺 at the age of eighteen, tonsured by Zhilong 智隆. Later trained under Ruyan 如琰 of Jingshan 徑山, attaining enlightenment with the inquiry into the gongan
"Zhaozhou washes his bowl"
趙州洗鉢. In 1228, he went to teach at Jingcisi 淨慈寺 in Qingyuanfu 慶元府 (modern-day Zhejiang 浙江) later residing at Zhidusi 智度寺 and Wanshousi 萬壽寺 in Xiangshan 香山. In 1245 following a decree he stayed at Zishengsi 資聖寺 in Xuedou 雪竇, and later also moved to such places as Guanglisi 廣利寺 in Ayuwangshan 阿育王山 and Jingcisi 淨慈寺 in Linan 臨安. In 1254 he stayed at Lingyinsi 靈隱寺, where he was awarded the title of Fozhi chanshi 佛智禪師. His writings are preserved in the two-fascicle Yanxi heshang yulu 偃溪和尚語錄.
