Basic Meaning: aggregate of perception

Senses:

  • Aggregate of associative thought, or symbolic function. One of the five aggregates 五蘊, . Refers to images that surface in the mind. In the theory of mental factors in the Yogâcāra school, the factors of perceptive mental function are included in this aggregate. In Wonhyoʼs commentary on the Awakening of Faith 起信論, this aggregate is identified with the coarse mark of defining names 計名字相 (Skt. saṃjñā, saṃjñā-skandha, saṃjñāna-skandha; Tib.
