Basic Meaning: Guchū Shūkyū
Senses:
(1323–1409. ) Japanese monk of the Rinzai school 臨濟宗, originally from Mino (presently Gifu). Founder of the Guchū Branch 愚中派, one of the twenty-four transmissions of Zen 禪宗二十四流 that reached Japan. Traveled to China in 1342 and came back to Japan in 1351. In 1395 became the founder of the Butsūji 佛通寺 in present Hiroshima prefecture. His recorded sayings, Daitsū zenji goroku 大通禪師語錄, are included in T. 81 No. 2563. Also known as 嶽松子, and was given the posthumous title of 佛德大通禪師.
