Basic Meaning: meditation practiced by ignorant sentient beings

Senses:

  • One of the four kinds of meditation explained in the Laṅkâvatāra-sūtra. Meditation practiced by non-Buddhists, śrāvakas, pratyekabuddhas and so forth, which has as its content the contemplation of no-self, impermanence, impurity and so forth (Skt. bālopacārikaṃ dhyānam.
