Basic Meaning: attribute of self

Senses:

  • One of the 'four attributes of nirvana' in the Nirvāṇa-sūtra. Wonhyo says: "To be free from the view of self and the view of no-self." The self being defined as 自在 sovereign, master, free. (涅槃宗要: HBJ 533D, 19). [Charles Muller; source(s): Soothill]
