Senses:
Conceptual reification of a self. In the Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment this notion of self is described as the primary hindrance to enlightenment, and is the first of the
'four reified concepts'
四相. The image manifested by mistaken conceptualization that seems to be a self, which ordinary people attach to as being inherently existent (Skt. ātma-saṃjñā, ātma-lakṣaṇa, ātma-grāha). The term 我相 also appears in the Diamond Sutra and the Śūraṃgama-sūtra. In the Diamond Sutra, anyone who accepts the concept of self 我相, person 人相, sentient being 衆生相, or life span 壽者相 is not a true bodhisattva. See also 我人四相. Also expressed as 我者.
