Basic Meaning: morality, meditation, and wisdom

Senses:

  • The three practices 三學 of Buddhism; discipline wards off bodily evil, meditation calms mental disturbance, wisdom gets rid of delusion and proves truth. Within the eightfold path 八正道, the first two items are types of wisdom, the next three are modes of discipline, and the last three are modes of concentration (Skt. śīla-samādhi-prajñā).
