Basic Meaning: Touzi gives an offering

  • This phrase refers to a gong'an 公案 in which Touzi Datong 投子大同 (819–914) took green leaves from a plate and held them up to his head, imitating a water buffalo during a ceremonial lunch for sharing offerings. Later, when asked why he did this, he replied, "Avalokitêśvara-bodhisattva 觀世音菩薩."
